Lunchtime: The Stag Head Pub

I'm going to recommend a pub)) many of us have already tried it at lunchtime. 

It is just opposite the Dame Court school building. They serve delicious food and the service is excellent! 

The prices are quite reasonable:

A huge hot sandwich with some chips costs from € 6 to 10, soup from €3.5 to 6.5, and is very tasty and nourishing. A meat or fish main dish - €12-13. Water is free. Ask for no ice))) the portions are big and you don't need to order more than one dish unless you are really starving)))

Give it a try: fast food is not a healthy option!)))

Напротив одного из зданий школы расположен очень приятный бар, где можно вкусно, хорошо и недорого пообедать. Собственно говоря, многие из нас там уже и столуются))) на случай, если кто-то еще не в курсе - рекомендую!))

It is very hard to live with them because i have to speak only english, i do not have a choose, even i do not know any words...it is very complicated...But i have neighbor, who helps me and show the city, he is from Switzerland and he will show me the road to my school tomorrow. By the way, he is english teacher, i am very lucky, he corrects my mistakes! 

(Очень трудно жить, когда все время по-английски говорить приходится. А с соседом повезло: это учитель английского из Щвейцарии, он и дорогу покажет, и ошибки исправит!)))

 We have our nice tiny room (with a little space) and our bathroom. We've just talked about being late for classes, so we arranged to have our breakfast alone (with everything we need left for us) and to go by a 7.47 train. The CCT building is the nearest to the station.

We have a nice family: Hugh, Mary, their two dogs... And five daughters) Actually, only one of them (Clodagh) lives here, they are all adults now. Lola, a girl from Spain, is leaving us on Thursday, and a nineteen-year-old guy is arriving this Saturday. Also from Spain. So we have practice not only in English, but in Spanish a bit too. There aren't any problems or arguments. We discuss almost everything.

We got to know REAL IRISH ACCENT on Sunday. If I am not mistaken, Clodagh's boyfriend is from the countryside. He tried to talk to us. We couldn't understand anything at all.

Today we went to St Patrick's cathedral, which was built in the XII century and restorated by Guiness family in 1860s. It is so beautiful... Not only the windows, of course. Also there are some people buried, including some soldiers of the First World War and Jonathan Swift. Talking about the Guiness family, the guide's story sounded like that family used to do everything everywhere.

(Замечательная семья: 5 дочерей, но они уже взрослые и дома живет только одна. 2 собаки. В доме живет еще одна студентка из Испании, но она в субботу уезжает, а заселится мальчик 19 лет, тоже из Испании. Так что мы и испанский потихоньку  осваиваем.)) а вот настоящий ирландский акцент нам оказался не по силам: к Клоде заехал ее молодой человек, из ирландской глубинки - мы вообще ни слова не понимали)))

I just want to tell you about my host family. Everything is okey. She really likes us because of fluent English. There no problems at all. We are speaking English all the time. We have breakfasts and dinners, our own room and bathroom. So we are satisfied with everything.

Where to begin?
First of all, my host family is great. She has to lovely girls. We spent Sunday walking in the park. We saw squirrels there but they were too frightened and didn't come to us. A great surprise for me was that there is a piano at my host family's house. Laura who is my host mother can play the piano very we'll. Her favorite song is The Love Story. They also sad they liked the music I'd played sitting by the piano.
The second thing is that the only excursion I've been on was The Leprechaun Museum. It was funny: there were enormous chairs and tables so it looked like we were tiny.
In conclusion I want to say that I'm enjoying my stay at Ireland and everything is going well.

(Семья замечательная, две очаровательные дочки. В воскресенье гуляли в парке, видели белок, только они пугливые. К моему великому удивлению, в доме оказалось пианино, Лаура прекрасно играет. Я тоже сыграла: им понравилось)))

Сходила пока только на одну экскурсию- The Leprechaun Museum:прикольно! Там стоят огромные столы и стулья, а люди кажутся карликами.)))

This is the photo of our tiny room. We have two beds, a small desk, a wardrobe and our bathroom, so it is comfortable for us.

We went to see the port.

Actually, it was a long walk to the port, we even wanted to go to the pearse, but it was dangerous to go further. The port itself is very nice, and the weather was wonderful. There is something like a monument in the last photos: it is about people running from Dublin by sea during the First World War, if I am not mistaken.

Here are the photos of our walk. Unfortunately, it would be dangerous if we went to the pearse, but I am sure it would be wonderful there.

Talking about the exhibition in the Science department of Trinity College, it wasn't as impressive as we expected, I wouldn't advise anybody to visit this place, after the planetarium in Moscow it can be a bit dull.

The Riverdance show was marvellous. I liked both singing and dancing, and for maybe one moment I regretted refusing to sing some years ago, because I know that I can develop and improve the voice skills. The dancing looks simple, but I am absolutely sure that the background (the rehearsals) is very hard for those who perform on stage.

It is 00:36 now, so I am switching off the internet and going to sleep. Looking forward to hearing from you.

 (Наконец-то фото комнатки, нам она нравится)) ванная отдельная. Ходили гулять в порт Дублина: зрелище незабываемое! Хотели бы пройти дальше по пирсу, но это могло быть опасно. Жаль! 

Научное отделение Тринити Колледжа нас невпечатлило: после московского планетария смотреть там нечего. 

Риверданс бесподобен!!! Вот тут-то я и пожалела, что несколько лет назад отказалась заниматься пением(( я могла бы совершенствоваться в этом направлении... Танцы кажутся несложными, но я знаю, сколько нужно было работать, чтобы так танцевать!)

Laundry: attention residence accommodated students!!!

Today I have successfully used the laundry:

You might need to do the same))) you can find it immediately next to the A1 block door:

The bottom row are the washing machines, the top one with the glass doors - the dryers. 

It costs € 2.50 either to wash or to dry your clothes. You need the coins of 50c, €1 or €2. You can change your money in Spar. The washing cycle is 36 min, the drying - 50 min. 

Come to me for the detergent and/or help to operate the machines. 

Don't forget to look at the washing instructions at your clothes label. Hot wash=white, warm=colours, cold=bright colours. See me for explanations))))

Irish whiskey and dog races

Before I tell about our vices;), I should probably put the stress on the fact that all our students are really serious and conscientious where it comes to attending classes learning. I am happy to ba able to provide some evidence))):

But as most of our group finish classes at 1pm, the school offers a variety of social activities which the students may opt for or ignore. It's up to a student to decide whether they would like to sign up for an activity, or entertain themselves, or just go back home and sleep or study. 

Yesterday's offers were, among other things, the Jameson Irish Whiskey Distillery in the afternoon and the Greyhound races in the evening. These two kinds of attractions can be regarded as typically Irish -and therefore seemed quite tempting))) 

In the Distillery we were shown a very well done film featuring its history - not the usual boring stuff, but a costume drama - very beautiful and filmed with a great sense of humour. Then the guide took us around the museum and told us some interesting and amusing facts about the Distillery, and Irish whiskey and how it is made.

 The tour finished with a tasting session, and some of us proved so good at it that they were granted a title and a certificate)))

So now if you want to know the difference between single distilled American whiskey, double distilled Scotch and triple distilled Irish whiskey - you know where to look for an expert!;)

(But my personal choice is still single maulted Scotch;))))

 

An hour after the Distillery Tour those who were interested were expected at the meeting place to go to the dog races. See how many of us responded:

Once we had made it to the races, we paid the entrance fee of 5 euros and were given the Race Programme with the betting instructions:

Some of us chose to bet small amounts like 1-2 euros, some just enjoyed the sight.

The wins varied from 1 to something like 8 euros. I was the biggest loser: every dog I fancied came the last or likewise;((( so I lost about 10 euros - now I know I should not gamble!)))))

The dogs were impressive! But it was the mechanical rabbit which caused our unreserved delight: this fluffy thing moved so unexpectedly fast around the circuit that everybody was absolutely thrilled - including the chasing dogs, of course))) they never caught it, poor things!)))

Отчет о трудовых буднях и способах прожигать жизнь))):

Мы, конечно, усердно занимаемся! С 9 до 13. Только трое трудоголиков выбрали интенсивный курс и  пашут как проклятые до 16. 

Но потом-то и начинается настоящая жизнь!;) И она прекрасна!

Школа всегда с нами - нам помогают не только учиться, но и проводить досуг. У всех у нас есть программа мероприятий на неделю, 5-6 предложений на каждый день, как платных так и бесплатных. Наша задача выбрать и записаться. И во-время явиться на место встречи. 

А можно и самому развлекаться. Или вообще спать отправиться. 

Вчера мы не спали: экскурсия на фабрику-музей по производству известного сорта ирландского виски, поездка на собачьи бега - как раз занятия для молодых аристократов, коими мы, несомненно, являемся!))))

Виски пробовали (но лишь те, кому уже есть 18!), никто под столом не остался, все ушли на своих ногах;) но некоторые особо впечатленные товарищи постарше отправились продолжать в бар ( тот самый, который устроен в настоящей церкви). Остальные перед искушением устояли - посмотреть собачек тоже очень хотелось!

При слове "собачьи бега" возникает образ грязного закутка, где пьяные мордовороты издеваются над несчастными животными... Все совершенно не так! Это большой, чистый, прекрасно оборудованный стадион, над местами для зрителей козырек (он нам как раз пригодился)). Никаких темных личностей по углам. Ставки принимают официальные клерки за компьютерами. 

Собаки великолепны! Когда они бегут, это, пожалуй, производит даже большее впечатление, чем когда бегут лошади - в конце концов, от лошади этого ждешь! 

Пиво пьют, на люди просто расслабленные и веселые, а не агрессивные. Много молодежи, есть дети. Все очень цивильно. 

Механический заяц - это восторг! Дети вам потом расскажут)))

Кто-то ставил по мелочи, для интереса. Чуть выиграли, чуть проиграли. Никто неразорился)).

Сегодня многие купили билеты на выступление Riverdance - это ирландские танцы, не так давно они в Москву с гастролями приезжали. Завтра расскажу.

 

Wednesday morning is better))))

As you can see - we are getting used to the new schedule - or maybe we are beginning to feel less jet lagged now)))

Here are some of us going to school on a double decker and admiring the view of Dublin in the morning!

There is no news about Ivan's luggage, but a very kind and efficient lady called Magda from the school office is checking on it every 15 minutes, so when/if there is a development, we'll be immediately notified. But she told me it usually takes a couple of days to find it in such cases((

Уже веселее дело идет, мы уже практически адаптировались к разнице во времени, а кататься на двухэтажном автобусе всегда интересно)) Кстати, во всех автобусах бесплатный wi fi, поэтому, даже если виды рассматривать надоест, всегда можно найти, чем заняться)))

Как правило, путешествие на автобусе занимает от 25 минут до 45 - и не потому что далеко ехать, а потому что очень медленное движение и на остановках подолгу стоим, пока все войдут-выйдут. Но все-таки пешком бы идти пришлось час-полтора. Но здесь действительно как-то весело и не напряжно ездится))))

Ванин багаж ищут; мы подключили школу, они проверяют каждые 15 минут, и как только будут новости, скажут нам. На нижнем фото девушка на заднем плане как раз этим занимается.

Вообще здесь очень приятные люди, тут не просто помогают, потому что должны, но как-то душевно помогают. Это относится и к школе, и к людям на улицах. Обратившись к кому-нибудь за помощью, как правило, получаешь раза в 4 больше того, о чем просил  - еще и обнимут тебя на прощание и чего-нибудь хорошего пожелают. Очень теплые люди! И приезжие здесь как-то оттаивают и встраиваются в общий "климат общения" - и все это ощущается как норма жизни... Вот как-то так...

Так что за детей беспокоиться оснований гораздо меньше, чем в Москве, я бы сказала)))))

I am happy to inform you that we have a new member of our community: Ivan Gorbachev. He hadn't been able to leave with us last Saturday - but he has joined us today.  His luggage didn't, by the way - it got lost on the way(((
